Runes (Book One) By Ednah Walters

What I thought about the cover:
The colors are very striking, right away my eyes where drawn to the title and I found myself clicking the button seeking approval to read the book off of netgalley without even knowing what it was about.  Sadly I am always a sucker for judging a book first by the cover then by the synopsis on the back.
Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life
Review:
I was actually hooked with this book right from the get go. There is just something about the author's way of writing that drew me in and kept me submerged in the world she had created.
I love the romance aspect that occurred within the pages of my kindle. It was the type of romance you know could be your downfall yet you find yourself helpless to it even though you start fighting with every thing you have. It is that type of attraction that calls to people even though they know better.
Torin is that bad boy that all girls drool over and secretly wish to be with  and despite his bad boy looks and actions turns out to be a sweet hero.
I liked the use of Runes in the book, it looked like a lot of research went into them and how they could be used. So that was a huge plus in my book because I cannot stand when a writer writes about something they have no clue about.  It becomes a pet peeve of mine if I find that and I tend to shy away from their works after that.
I love that the type of mythology used in this book was not one of the popular generic kinds. Instead she dabbled in a mythology that most people know little to nothing about.
*SPOILER*
My only problem with the book was the way it seemed to just twist so there was a happy ending. I would have liked to see Torin stuck in the land of the mist and Raine have to go get him, or for her to have been unable to save her friends. I didn't like how just about everything came together towards the end wrapped up in a pretty little bow. I also would like to know what had really happened to her Father.
Otherwise though this was a really good read, and normally I would have had this read within a day but being a new mom it took longer then expected. Gotta love those kids lol.

Memorable Quotes:
  • "I closed my eyes tight and then opened them again. He was still there, the only thing missing was a boy or a note with my name pinned to his forehead."

"I'm Sorry I didn't return your calls and texts. I was pissed and my cell phone flew right out of my hand and hit a wall.'
I frowned. " You mean you threw it."
  • " If you must me so literal."

  • "Does he make you tremble with a touch?" He ran the tips of his fingers up my bare arms  his touch feather light, yet it lit a fire inside of me. I closed my eyes, my entire body trembling. He pulsed through me. " Is he the first person you think about when you wake up in the morning and the last one you think about before you fall asleep?"

Rating:
4 out of 5 Stars
(Well worth the read)
