Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Synopsis:
Sparks are igniting, flames are spreading and the Capitol wants revenge.

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

In Catching Fire, the second novel of the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before...and surprising readers at every turn

Review:
I'm baaaack!
After a week in the hospital you would think that I would have had time to read to my heart's content, and that was what I thought when I was admitted last Saturday morning, the  only problem was, I was on such great pain killer's I couldn't focus on the words for to long.

It turns out when trying to find out why I couldn't keep anything down and deal with the pain that came with rupturing a large ovarian cyst and having your gallbladder stop working, that you have to be kept pretty doped up.

I was however determined to read at least one book, and I met my goal.

I know before I had said that I was never going to read this book, mainly because I just couldn't see what they intended to do after the first, and I still stand by it, so it came to no surprise when there was another Hunger Games in the second book just with a twist.

I neither disliked nor was I completely gaga over the second book. Perhaps it was the med's or perhaps it is just that I have such a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of the book.

It actually felt a little rushed to me, where as before the first in the series seemed to run smoothly with all the right amount of drama and action, this one felt as if I was on fast foreword constantly, with only snip it's of pause to where I could catch enough information to gather what was going on but not become emerged in the tale.

I didn't have a favorite in this book because unlike last time I didn't really get a connection to any of the character's.

Rating:
3 Raven's. (It was alright.)

The Unoficial Zack Warren Fan club by J.C. Isabella

Synopsis:
Welcome to the big leagues. To secrets and scandals. It's all about the game. Who's playing. Who's not. Who has no idea about the game. And...wait, what game are we playing?

I'll leave that for you to decide.

Where to start is the big question for Chloe Baker. How was she supposed to explain to Zack Warren that she started a fan club for him when she was a kid? It was just a game. A way to make friends and have fun. She never thought it would spiral out of control. And never. In a million, gazillion years, did she think it would follow her to college. How could she tell him her best friend Lana kept the club alive? That she had nothing to do with the craziness?

Chloe didn’t understand why she cared so much about Zack's opinion of her. She hated him. He hated her. They had very mutual feelings of dislike for each other. So he'd just hate her even more when or if he found out.

And that's totally fine...she thinks.

Zack Warren had a soft spot for Chloe Baker. He likes the way she walks. He likes the way she talks. If he was poetically inclined, he’d write a sonnet about her ass.

It's Zack’s junior year of college. He’s got things to worry about. Scouts from the major leagues. Baseball games. Contracts. Grades.... His father ran away to Vegas with Chloe's mother. He didn’t have time to worry about a girl. But he did. He worried about Chloe a lot, especially with that jerk Max sniffing around her. It's weird though, to like your stepsister, right?

But Zack could argue that he saw Chloe first. Way before his dad met her mom. He was too young to stake a claim. But just didn’t care anymore.

He’s done playing games

Review:
This is a cute story of two kids in love who hid it very well until fate decided to throw them together and force each other to be in the other's face. How fate accomplishes this I am sure you are wondering is simple, Chloe, a main character, and Zack, obviously another main character, their parents meet and get married.

Yes these two kids are in college but what college kids won't come home and spend time with the family, or in other words enjoy free meals and laundry services.

Anyway, the thing Zack doesn't know is that Chloe created a fan club that border lines stalking, when she was a child and much to her dismay has run away from her and gotten out of control. Is it still a secret except for club mates? Yes, but for how long. And what will the consequences be as the relationship between step sibling's and bitter enemies turns sweet.

Find out this and more as you crack open this quick and easy read.

Rating:
3.5 Raven's. (Pretty good, really fast and easy to read.)

The Viking's Witch by Kelli A. Wilkins

Synopsis:
Scotland, 803 A.D.

About to be burned at the stake by her fellow villagers, Odaria does what any betrayed witch facing certain death would do. She calls down a curse. Within seconds, rampaging Norsemen raid the village, capturing everyone except her.

After Rothgar witnesses Odaria’s powers firsthand, he strikes a bargain with her. The raven-haired beauty will use her magical abilities to help him with his quest in exchange for safe passage off the isle. But can this cunning woman be trusted, or is she using him to exact vengeance on her village?

Together they must fight bloodthirsty villagers, battle a mutinous band of Norsemen, find a missing Norse ship, and learn to trust each other . . . before time is up

Review:
This book starts out in the thick of thing's, the main character is charged with witch craft, and though she has never denied her heritage, she refuses to admit to the evil deed's being thrown her way. So she is being escorted to the pile of wood which is intended to burn her alive with.

Using what she believes to be her last breath she summons down a curse on the villager's, which just so happens to be the Viking's who lurked nearby.

I think the author played it well, creating a chance circumstance that could build on the power of Odaria and Rothgar and the love that seems to bring them together. They don't have the easiest relationship, trust issue's, a slight language barrier and the fact that she is in the middle of a blood thirsty Viking nest that have come in search for a prince that might have washed up on her shore's and might be dead.

With her power can she find him, can she keep the man that has kept her safe since his arrival on the island and can she believe in the vision's that come in her dreams?

I enjoyed the book, the event's were a little choppy, but over all it flowed really smoothly. I liked that they struggled for their love, it wasn't one of those, love at first sight ordeals. Lust on the other hand...
So I do suggest approaching this book with caution because there is plenty of steam ready to fog up your glasses when turning the page of this book?

I also loved the fact that the evil villain had gone mad with his hate and prejudice. That is so often the case in real life that it was great to see it in the written word.

Rating:
4 Raven's!
